Alina Baraz Rules Top TV Songs Chart For March 2018, Thanks to 'On My Block'

Alina Baraz’s “Electric,” featuring Khalid, rules The Hollywood Reporter’s Top TV Songs chart, powered by Tunefind and Shazam, for March, thanks to its appearance in Netflix’s On My Block.

Rankings for the Top TV Songs chart are based on song and show data provided by Tunefind and ranked using a formula blending respective Shazam tags, as well as sales and streaming information tracked by Nielsen Music during the corresponding period.

Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart of The Chainsmokers perform onstage during 103.5 KTU's KTUphoria 2014 presented by Burlington, at IZOD Center on June 29, 2014 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

“Electric,” which appears on Baraz’s new EP The Color of You, leads all songs with 15,000 Shazam tags, along with 3,000 downloads sold and 9.6 million U.S. streams in March, according to Nielsen Music.

The track is the first entry on the Top TV Songs chart for both Baraz and Khalid, and it’s also the first time a song from On My Block has appeared on the tally since Netflix released the full first season on March 16. Four tracks land on the March ranking, as BLESSED’s “Sorrow” also enters at No. 7, Amir Obè’s “NATURALLY” debuts at No. 9, and Brent Faiyaz’s “Insecure” lands at No. 10.

Just below “Electric,” Crowded House’s 1986 single “Don’t Dream It’s Over” debuts at No. 2, thanks to its appearance in FX’s The Americans. Thanks to the show, the song logged 30,000 Shazam tags, 6,000 downloads sold and 31.5 million U.S. streams in March.

“Don’t Dream It’s Over,” which is the oldest song on the latest Top TV Songs ranking, was Crowded House’s first and highest-charting Billboard hit, as the song reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 1987. The group landed four additional hits on the Hot 100, including one more top 10 hit, “Something So Strong” in August 1987.

Finally, M83’s “Wait” opens at No. 5 following its appearance in ABC’s The Good Doctor.

The song reached No. 25 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart in 2014 and earned 6,000 Shazam tags, 1,000 downloads sold and 2.6 million U.S. streams in March.
